Harmonic Charts

by Kerry Shamblin

First, the birth chart is much like a blueprint, or a map. It shows the outlines and the walls and the treasure, but it is up to us to fill in the details. It is a picture of your moment of birth, but life is not static, we are here to grow and develop. The birth chart is excellent for showing our tendencies and possibilities. Perhaps that is why Vedic astrology uses harmonic charts to project the development of different areas of life. The most important harmonic is the 9th harmonic, or navamsa chart, which can be located underneath your birth chart. Some look to it as the chart of the marriage, but I prefer to see it as the chart of the second half of life, after age 30, somewhat like the new birth chart that is cast at the time of the Saturn return. In our society, not everyone gets married, but hopefully most of us grow up. This chart can be examined to see our potential, the possibilities of our adult life. Of course, the birth chart is not abandoned entirely, but the meanings of the two may be blended to predict future tendencies.
